Now featuring Air Deccan

After two weeks of late nights and one working Sunday, we’re thrilled to announce that Air Deccan is now available on Cleartrip.com.

We know you’ve been asking for Air Deccan for some time now. We could possibly have made it available sooner by doing something called “screen scraping.” Screen scraping is achieved when a computer program goes to an airline web site (Air Deccan), does a search, then displays the results on another web site (Cleartrip).

Cleartrip doesn’t believe in screen scraping. We believe screen scraping guarantees a terrible customer experience. Screen scrape programs usually store results for a period of time, using a technique called “caching.” Caching improves the speed of screen scrape based searches, but there’s a downside — if it’s fast the fares are inaccurate; and if it’s accurate, the search is slow.

By integrating directly with the airline’s system, we make sure you get a search that is fast and accurate.

IndiGo was introduced a few weeks back and SpiceJet has been available for months.

Happy flying, now featuring Air Deccan.

Siddharth/Vishal – My sincere apologies for the delays in responding to you.

The unfortunate truth is that cancellation and refund procedures are dictated by the airlines and the banks, not by Cleartrip. That, however, is no excuse for your experience.

Check the link below for a similar customer story

We’re working hard to give you all the help you need. We will look into your case numbers immediately.

Like the first poster said, this blog seems to be the only way to get in touch with anyone inside Cleartrip. Its almost impossible to get through the customer support phone line or email. I have been sending mails for two weeks now and also trying the phone line for a week. I have gotten through the phone only twice (and still no reply to emails!). Both times I was put on hold for a long time and was later told that "we would get in touch with you in an hour". And since I am ranting here, you can see that they haven’t bothered.

I have two cases pending: 1-44155 and 1-44162 (booking # 06345AD054). The first is about delivery of an Indian Airlines paper ticket. I booked it on Dec 11th and still haven’t got it. I am supposed to fly in 2 days and I am getting all this. I don’t even know whether to keep waiting or to cancel and loose all that money. The second case is that Cleartrip has overcharged my credit card! The voucher amount and the card bill amount don’t match. I have no clue as why they would do this.

Anyway, I hope this rant is read. The online experience was so good, but the offline experience has ruined it all for me.

Uhh…can someone at cleartrip please explain:

    http://www.kayak.com vs. http://www.cleartrip.com

Is it even permissible to so blatantly rip off another’s website design such as this?

    • Hrush
    • December 20, 2006

Kunal – please compare Kayak result pages with Cleartrip result pages for air or hotel searches and let us know what similarities you find.

The similarity between the sites ends at the home page. We chose from the beginning not to feature any ads on our home page. Kayak doesn’t feature ads on their home page either.

Since both Kayak and Cleartrip serve the travel search market, the search forms end up looking similar.

Would you then say Kayak copied Google?

My case no is 1-45997 and I havent received my paper tickets in Pune as yet and neither have we received any communication from cleartrip. You need to acknowledge the fact that this trip is extremely important and any delay in receipt of the ticket might land me in trouble and at the same time loss of money.

Your phone lines are pathetic and you must put them in the dustbin!

Kindly respond, since by reading previous blogs I think this is the only way to get you to respond. I need a response at least the AFL tracking number. I am flying back on the weekend and I am sure that none of you will send me my ticket on those days!

I need to know WHEN will I get the ticket and at least the tracking number??

My Flight Confirmation number is 06348AD614 and I havent received my paper tickets in Delhi till now . I got the confirmation from CLeartrip on the day of Booking 15th December itself that i shall be receiving the tickets in 2 Business days. But i havent received my Paper tickets till now. I have to travel after 2 days and i am clueless about the tickets.

You need to Feel the importance i have for this trip and any delay in receipt of the ticket might land me in trouble and at the same time loss of money. Kindly provide a Courier Company Tracking number( AFL Tracking number) as soon as someone books the ticket. I am feeling helpless as you people dont respond to mails( Ref 1-45763) , not do you pick up calls on your so called customer care number 02230405999 and there is no way to reach you.

Your phone lines are pathetic. First of all it takes a hell lot of time to get to reach the customer care, and then after reaching there some stupid customer care officer cuts the line. It happened not once but twice.

You should just Kick all your customer care officers out of your office. Its the worst experience i have with any Airline Booking Office.
Pathetic Service by Pathetic customer care people.

If i dont get my tickets on time, then i may go for legal action against you.

    Hi Vishal,

You are very true about the cleartrip experience.
Cleartrip officials got in touch with me about the same and they told me that they will be informing me on how to get refund today itself,
But I have nt heard from them today also….

Is that the way to treat the customers?

What should we do – Hrush?

    • December 21, 2006

Ankur, Ruchi, Ashish, Siddharth — you have my deepest apologies for the delays in your cases. I am personally looking into them and hope to have some answers for each of you within a few hours.

Once again, I’m sorry for the delays, rest assured that we’re working hard to clear each of your cases.

Hrush….just have a look on the date of my blog…17th Dec,yet i’ve not heard back anything from u,except than one hope;lets see how much more time u take to resolve it……and one thing is absolutely true that…the customer care of Cleartrip is the world’s best kind of….bcoz all the officers are either sleeping all the time or dead …But if neither this,we think that…this is the sign of the worst service provided by Cleartrip so that every other customer is trying to call the cust care and keep phonelines and the officer’s busy all the time…isn’t it? …so cust people n cleartrip has the only way to esacape from this…to do not respond …keep quiet…do Advertising…make fool the new customers….and let go the old frustrated customers to dustbin…who care

    Dear Hrush,
If you are really looking into our cases, it will be easiest for you to send us our AFL tracking numbers. Please do that at the earliest. There is a long weekend and I will be stuck if I dont have my ticket. Even Indian Airlines cannot help me. I would request you to do this at the earliest i.e. by today or tomorrow morning….
If this doesnt work out then I will not only occur financial losses but time loss also!

Please do get back at the earliest!

    Bravo Cleartrip!!!!

I finally got a confirmation from Cleartrip that the cancellation amount will be re-credited to my account in 30 working days.

Alas!!! Another 30 days to get my money back…
    But still applause for Hrush…

Siddharth, Vishal — I’m glad you received your confirmation. If you paid by an ICICI card, your refund processing will be complete within 48 hours.

Ruchi — your ticket has been dispatched and you should be receiving it today.

Ankur/Ashish — you will be receiving a phone call from us to help with your cases.

Thank you for your patience and, once again, my sincerest apologies for the inconvenience.

Thanks for the push Hrush. I got my tickets and intimation about my refund within 2 days of complaining here. Looks like _you_ are the best customer care executive Cleartrip has :-) . May be you should found a few customer care companies that work through blog comments ;-) .

Some more feedback – you should update your FAQ. It says that once a paper ticket is booked, you are supposed to get a tracking number, which I never got (though I got the tickets!). Tracking numbers are very very useful … they help a lot in containing increasing heart rate :-) . You also need to support Firefox (or Mozilla) slightly better, scripts keep breaking here and there.

Thanks again. I hope my experience next time is better.

nice blog. Is this a blogging site ? Can I get a blog here ?

    • Ruchi Govind
    • December 27, 2006

Thanks Hrush, I did get my tickets at the last moment and I was able to fly back.
Sadly AFL does not support you very well. At the time of delivery of ticket the AFL guy had my phone number but no address. I wonder how that is possible!

I had to track AFL 3 times during the course of the day to get them to revert on my query. But the case is same with cleartrip. Your executive called me one evening and said that the next morning he will DEFINITELY check if I have received the ticket; which he never did.

Secondly if you do have other numbers then why dont you advertise them on the site? For the benefit of others who will use cleartrip in the future; there is another number through which I actually got through.

    The number is 02230402240

I cannot complain because I did finally get my tickets, but it is only because I got back to them every time; on the blog, on the phone and with their courier guy! Is this supposed to be my job? I mailed my problem to customer support, but never received a revertal from there! If you cannot handle mail queries then please shut it down. If you promise giving the tracking numbers then DO IT! Dont promise and not deliver. Because I followed with cleartrip a second time, I got a call back from them asking me whether I received it or not! If I hadnt you would have conveniently forgotten!

I wonder if I will ever book through cleartrip for all of the above reasons! One suggesstion for whoever from cleartrip who reads it: If you dont have the infrastructure then advertise only how much you can handle. Capturing all possible media to advertise and then not being able to handle the inflow due to shortage of infrastructure is bad management.

While I thank cleartrip for getting my tickets on time, I was not very happy with the service; which i guess you can understand why!

    • Hrush
    • December 27, 2006

Ruchi – you have my sincerest apologies for the inconvenience caused to you. We fully understand where you’re coming from.

We’ve experienced massive growth over the last 5 to 6 weeks and are increasing our infrastructure and capacity as fast as we can.

Also, thanks for your feedback on AFL, I will be following up to ensure tighter service levels from them.

I hope you will give us another chance. Growth comes with its challenges, but we’re getting better everyday.

To all of you who have written in with your complaints, I can only say, we’re sorry, and thank you. Thank you for caring enough to give us your feedback.

    As always, we’re listening.

Clear trip contact number posted on the site does not exist. I have been trying to contact but all in vien.

I wonder how good will clear trip be if someone needs an urgent assistance.

I had booked a ticket on a certain date, and wish to change the same to a different date. In cleartrip.com you have an option to change the flight, when i clicked on that my ticket got cancelled.

I have already contacted the airlines and they say, they cant do anything, what ever to be done can be done only by cleartrip.

now i dont know who to contact and what to do.. unless cleartrip wishes to be customer service oriented.

    • December 29, 2006

    Hey Sorry!!!

I am quite late in posting my feedback this time.
But seriously, Hrush and Sandeep thanks to both of you.
I think there is no need to hire additional custyomer care executives as both of you are doing your part very well.
I appreciate the effort put by you to get ours problems solved though not in real time.
This will encourage us (and that I say for sure) to continue oe endeavour with Cleartrip to a great extent and we will look forward to your site for vbooking our tickets and hopefully getting the ticket cancelled and getting back the cancellation amount as soon as possbile in the worst case scenario. :)

I hope by God’s Grace this condition does not raise its ugly face again.

    Dear Sir,

Just want to know if Cleartrip uses API of all the Airlines or is it just the screen scraping method.

    Regards

    Peter Ferro

    • Hrush
    • January 9, 2007

    Peter,

Cleartrip has zero screen-scraping. We only provide search results from airlines where we have XML integration.

As I said in the main post above, we firmly believe that screen scraping guarantees a terrible customer experience and we avoid it like the plague.

    cheers
    Hrush

Hi…I was searching tix from HYD to DEL and Indian airlines showed up in there. I came back the next day ready to buy and a new search did not show any IA flights?
    Someone care to explain??

    • Hrush
    • January 28, 2007

Desi Don — Cleartrip’s search results are based on real time seat inventory from the airlines. So, if seats were available during your first searcg, but not available the next day, the flights would not be displayed.

    Hope this helps.

I can’t believe that Cleartrip os trying to immitate businesses like Priceline or Travelocity and others in the US. They are so poor in their customer service. Only Mumbai number no customer service in Bangalore. I don’t think they have a customer service dept. It may just a phone number, that’s it. I called 3 times and waited for 20 minutes and nu body picks up the phone. I don’t think this company will survive for too long. I wouldn’t use them next time and I will not recommend to others also. I am still waiting to speak to their customer service on a cancelled transaction/

    Sir
    Sub: Refund of ticket fare

I was traveling from Beira (Mozambique) to Ranchi (India) along with my wife, son and daughter as per following programme:

Beira to Johannesburg by SA 8501 on 25.01.07
Johannesburg to Dubai by EK 764 on 25.01.07
Dubai to Delhi by EK 510 on 27.01.07
Delhi to Ranchi by DN 726 on 27.01.07

    Details of passengers:
    1. S.K.Sinha self
    2. Meeta Sinha wife
    3. Saksham Sinha, age 15 years son
    4. Sanskriti Sinha, age 14 years daughter

On 27.01.07 when we reported at 3.15 hrs for our boarding to flight No. (scheduled departure at 5.15 hrs), we could not get boarding because of overbooking.
We were allowed boarding in IC 898 but the flight was late. It left Dubai at 12.30 hrs and we could reach Delhi at 17.30 hrs on 27.01.07. Our connecting Air Deccan flight to Ranchi (Flight No. DN 726) which had scheduled departure at 16.00 hrs was missed.

We could get booking in flight No S2 6163 only on 28.01.07 with scheduled departure at 13.15 hrs. We could not reach Ranchi in time and all our purpose of going from Beira to Ranchi for attending the marriage of my wife’s youngest sister was defeated.
We suffered loss on account of missing the connecting flight to Ranchi.
We met the Indian Airlines Shift Manager at New Delhi airport on 27.01.07 who gave a certificate in support of delay in flight No. IC 898. It was suggested by him that this refund will be made by Air Deccan as this is your mutual understanding that in case of Air Deccan flight getting late, Indian Airlines refund the fare.
It is requested to refund full amount of ticket fare (4 persons – Rs. 16,000/-).

I live in London and was planning to travel from Delhi to Goa in January 2007. cleartrip.com came recommended by a friend who lives in India. Followed her advise only to be immensely disappointed. Tried making a booking in December 2006 – outward journey was with Spice jet and inbound with AirDeccan. After booking and after providing my credit card number, the booking returned as failed. I tried again, same process and the booking returned again. The message which was displayed was – “We are sorry, your booking can not be made at this time”. (Or something like that) 24 hrs later, I had a message from Altamash telling me that my outbound was confirmed twice (as I tried to book twice) but inbound wasn’t as Airdeccan doesn’t accept international credit cards. He offered me different alternatives and I told him to hold my bookings for a day. Few hours later I called Altamash to cancel my bookings and ask him to refund my tickets. He acknowledged and promised me a refund. Three weeks later I called cleartrip to chase on that refund. After being kept on hold for 45 mins, and explaining the whole situation again, I was told that refund takes approximately a month to clear.
I then tried calling cleartrip again after few weeks, and again only to be kept on hold forever. After about an hour I gave up. Tried calling again today and I think it being my lucky day, I got connected within 5 minutes. I tried explaining the whole situation to Preeti and after being on the phone with her for 30 minutes, I was advised that they will investigate and get back to me.
I am almost on the verge of giving up hope and contacting my lawyers in India. This is indeed my last hope. I have already spent a lot of money on international telephone calls (almost the price of a one way ticket from Delhi to Goa). Can you please look into this for me before I take any adverse step.
Look forward to hearing from you.

    My Case No. is 1-70649.

I had booked an air ticket on cleartrip.com . Later, I got the ticket cancelled on 25th January.

I have neither received any refund nor got any intimation on when I would get it.

I have also registered a case with Air Deccan customer support (Case No. 38526).

By the way I have sprained neck, while waiting one and a half hour for their executives to take the call.

I booked paper ticket of Trip ID 07279AD992 on 6th oct 2007 at 1.30PM. Till now I didn’t get the courier details. On asking your customer care, they could only say that "courier department is closed". My journey is on 11th early morning. I am afraid that I will eventually miss the flight. I don’t understand why a courier confirmation can’t be made within 4 hours of the working day!!
Kindly apprise me the courier details.
