Russian poster design

Old school Russian posters are great examples of classic design.

These timeless designs stick to the classic three-colour palette of red, black, white; a mix that never fails because those three colours contrast and compliment each other perfectly. Roger Black probably learned his red, black and white rule from these guys.

In addition, their designs almost always satisfy the Joe Duffy 30:3 paradigm of poster design. According to Duffy, a poster should work differently when viewed from 30 feet away than when viewed from 3 feet away–at 30 feet away, the poster’s function is to attract you; at 3 feet away, the poster’s function is to inform you.
