LAUNCH: Train search

Ever since Cleartrip launched, we’ve had thousands of users writing to us and asking us to include trains on our site. Today, we’re thrilled to announce the beta launch of Cleartrip’s new train search.

We’ve been testing the search for some time now and we’ve also been gathering feedback from a select group of users and making improvements based on their feedback. We love the train search–it really goes the extra mile to make searching and selecting the right trains and prices simple.

While building the train search, we looked long and hard at a lot of available train searches online, ranging from the Indian Railways to the London Underground.

The Cleartrip train search packs a lot of missing functionality while maintaining Cleartrip’s trademark simplicity.

Key features of the Cleartrip train search include:

  • Blazing fast search results
  • See trains and fares with a single search
  • Search multiple stations in a city with a single search instead of having to search
  • Compare fares for multiple fare classes on the same screen
  • Instant sorting and filtering of search results
  • Details for all train routes & railway station

For more information, take a tour of the train search. We hope you like the new addition.

Great stuff! Love how Cleartrip is evolving. Straight. Simple. Clear!

  1. Awesome! A very pleasant surprise from you :-) I am trying it and I find good results. Great work! One quick suggestion here, can you let us search all classes in one click please?

  2. Just tried the new train search feature.
It’s amazing. I really loved the way it displays train names, fares, arrival-departure time, seats availability all on the same screen.
The search speed is also pretty good.
But, still I couldn’t stop myself from asking for more :-)
Wondering, if it would be possible for Cleartrip to show the nearest date from today on which seats are available for travel for a specified number of people, class, train and between a particular set of stations.
    Cheers,
    Rajesh

    Congrats,

The cleartrip rocks. It has again after rediff done something unique and good. The service is ten times better then the orignal website.

We are also working on a similar version which will have all the features of a railway booking reservation.

  3. Hi Hrush,
Love what cleartrip is doing. Would like to get in touch with you to explore possible synergies. If you could email me (so I have your email address), we could talk about it more offline.

    Rgds,
    Param

    Hrush,
Are you guys screen-scraping the railways website to get the schedule ? If so, the one search is awfully fast. Or is it an API provided by railways ? Congrats in either case. We badly need an alternative to the lousy railways website UI

  4. plz also provide seats availability position for tatkal reservation

    Great job, few suggestions:
    - allow to find all trains between stations without having to enter a date to see which trains are available on which days of week.
    - In the train schedule show the day number to easily identify that say if I start on day 1 will reach on day 3.
    - Add smaller stations, example chitrokoot
    - Where cleartrip can add more value is when it can suggest me connecting trains when there are no direct ones available.

Wow. Thats really nice. I never really liked the irctc search. Its bloated with ads and all kind of stuff and most of the time its slow.

    This is really cool.

    Hi hrush,

Great work with the Train search. The GUI is clean and soothing. However I would like to bring up some points which you may action upon (if you guys feel) –

    1) The Fares as shown on the page do not match the fares on the IRCTC website.

    2) When you click on the Check Availability link we could inform the user to wait for the action to complete…something like a DIV saying Loading…

    3) We can have the availability status shown for all the classes rather than a single one. We could againg have a div/frame showing the details.

Hoping to book a railway ticket through your site soon…..

    Keep up the good work…

Rahul–thanks for the feedback, we’re working on all of the feedback we’re getting daily and are in the process of improving our search. Stay tuned.

With respect to your second point, we actually do have a "loading" animation that we use to indicate that there is activity going on. Not sure why that didn’t work for you, but we’ll look into it.

    Thanks for the reply Hrush…
Yes I could get a glimpse of the dotted animation this time…May be it was a browser issue on the first instance…
I am looking forward to a great search experience. :-)
