Here come the sliders

Since Cleartrip launched, we’ve had top-of-the-line search filters that allow you to adjust your flight and hotel search results so that you can make the perfect choice with just a few extra clicks and instant updates to the results. There was a little something that our filters were missing–you guessed it, slider controls.

We’ve had a lot of requests from users for sliders and earlier today, we launched a new version of our search filters with the sliders. The image below provides a before and after look at our flight filters–the old filter is on the left and the new one on the right with the sliders highlighted.

We use the slider for all filtering that involves a range of values, for instance, price range or departure and arrival time ranges. The sliders are a nice improvement over the dropdown menus we had previously–they surface the underlying information immediately without forcing you to hunt through a list of values.

In addition to surfacing information quickly, the sliders provide very precise control in specifying the range of values that are acceptable to you. It’s now very easy to say that you only want to see flights that depart between 10:30 am and 11:30 pm.

Cleartrip’s air search features sliders for price, departure time and arrival time; the hotel search has a slider for price.

We hope you love the new sliders–we’re always looking for ways to improve your searching and booking experience.

  1. Oh my my what a cool feature…. but less useful. I was so proud that Cleartrip was the very few travel sites which doesnt have a slider for price. It doesnt make sense coz I will never have a price range in mind when i search for tickets; it will be always the max amount i’m willing to pay ie my budget. I will never say i’m willing to pay an amount between 3000 to 8000 for my ticket. Why should i be ever worried about my min price?

Keeping that in mind you can debate that i can ignore the left slider and always use the right slider but again there is a problem. I will never have my budget set for amounts like 11200, 9900 and 7600.

Sliders make sense when you have to gradually increase or decrease something (volume control, brightness) or to block a specific time period (10.20am to 12.15pm) etc.

Your slider for departure time indeed makes sense, but the positioning doesnt; its way below. Thats one of the most used feature i would say than selecting specific airlines and type of ticket. For me price is most important which i deal by sorting price and the budget setting, the departure times, stops, ticket type (which might automatically deselect some airlines) and choosing specific airlines in the end.) in that order.

    Umesh–thanks for the feedback.

We think the price slider makes sense for some people. And as you said, you can safely ignore it and continue to use the sorting function for price if you prefer.

We’ll see what we can do about repositioning the departure & arrival time sliders.
