It’s been a while since we posted our browser statistics here. We had posted browser stats for April 2007 and for July 2007. There’s some interesting trends when one compares those earlier figures with our browser stats for August 2008.
The table below shows a comparison of the browser share on our site and how browser share has changed.
| Browser | Aug 2008 | Jul 2007 | Apr 2007 |
| Internet Explorer 6 | 57.7% | 73.9% | 76.4% |
| Internet Explorer 7 | 23.9% | 12.4% | 10.7% |
| Firefox 3 | 7.4% | NA | NA |
| Firefox 2 | 7.0% | 10.2% | 9.5% |
| Mozilla | 2.0% | 0.6% | 0.3% |
| Safari | 1.2% | 0.5% | 0.3% |
| Opera | 0.8% | 0.8% | 0.7% |
IE 6, the scourge of web developers everywhere, is still the numero uno browser, but IE 7, its slightly less evil younger sibling has taken quite a bite out of IE 6′s market share. Firefox adoption has steadily increased. Mozilla and Safari are both surprisingly stronger and Opera remains flat.
Regular readers may remember, we recently theorised whether people who read blogs use better browsers — Firefox’s share of our blog traffic is almost double the share it has on our main site.
81.6% IE and 16.4% Gecko [firefox + mozila]… will be interesting to watch the impact of Chrome next year same time on these stats…
