[Browser Stats] July 2009

We last posted browser stats for August 2008, so here’s Cleartrip’s latest browser stats for July 2009.

Browser share

Firefox continues to gain share, adding a little over 5 points. Google Chrome has picked up a little over 7% in the short time since its launch. And the evil Internet Explorer still dominates, but has lost almost 12%. That 12% seems to have gone straight to Firefox and Chrome.

Internet Explorer versions

If Internet Explorer being dominant isn’t bad enough, the fact that over 50% of IE users are still using IE 6 is deplorable–Microsoft and the entire web community need to be doing a lot more to get these users to upgrade their browser versions or switch to other browsers.

The number of IE users is directly proportional to the number of Windows OS users.

  1. Correct @Schumi, and the number of IE6 users is directly proportional to the number of hacked Windows OSes out there. Microsoft isn’t going to hurry to upgrade those people.
