20 million more photos on Small World

Small World already had some gorgeous imagery available for its destinations and attractions from Lonely Planet and the Flickr community. As part of our commitment to provide as much relevant content on Small World as possible, we’ve just added over 20 million geo-tagged photos from around the world, courtesy of Panoramio. Panoramio is a photo sharing site that allows users to learn more about any area in the world by looking at photos taken at that place by other people.

You will see photos from the Panoramio community across Small World – like on the San Francisco overview page or the San Francisco photos page. Shown here are the Painted Ladies of San Francisco in the photo gallery:

We have also included Panoramio photos in another interesting place – the map. Photos are superimposed on the map, over the location they were taken in, giving you an instant idea of what the area looks like. Photos are not visible on the map by default, but can be enabled by toggling the switch under the ‘More’ menu in the top right corner of the map. Click any thumbnail to see a larger photo. Once again, here are the Painted Ladies of San Francisco superimposed on the map:

Thanks to Panoramio, you can have a look around any neighborhood while researching a destination, hotel, restaurant or attraction on Small World. We hope you find this little feature useful; after all, a picture is worth a thousand words.
