It was a little over a year ago that we first launched Cleartrip for mobile phones. Since then, we have made significant improvements with a fantastic smartphone optimised version and the addition of train bookings on mobile phones.
From the moment we launched the current version of Cleartrip Mobile, we’ve had divergent feedback on what customers want. There are many who say they want us to build an app, like this Twitter user:

And then there’s plenty of people who seem perfectly happy with a web site optimised for mobile devices:

To date, we’ve preferred to stay focused on HTML and HTML5 for mobile devices instead of building native apps. The complexity and cost of building and supporting multiple different apps for different operating systems and different devices is staggering. HTML5 lets us build and maintain a single product that works very well across all devices.
But we’d like to hear it from you–would you prefer apps or would you prefer to use your mobile browser? Take the poll here and let us know.
Feel free to share any additional thoughts you have in the comments. We’re hoping to learn a lot from this poll and your thoughts will help shape the future direction of Cleartrip Mobile.
Be great to have a nice bookmark-version that caches base code well, stands alone and gets rids of the URL and bottom bars…
Ashim, if you are on an iPhone you can do it today. Here’s how: http://blog.cleartrip.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/storage/mobile/iphone-homescreen.png
We are doing some minimal caching but haven’t gotten rid of the URL / bottom bars since our site isn’t designed to work without browser navigation (back/forward buttons) yet.
web apps are of the past….need a standalone app for BB and IOS asap . would make travel so much more easy…!
