[Design nuances] Filter hotels by star rating

When searching for hotels, filtering search results by star rating is a very quick way to get to the hotel you want easily. Star ratings let you quickly and easily group hotels into broad categories where you know what to expect--the higher the star rating, the nicer the hotel and the higher the cost.

We've always allowed you to sort hotels by star rating and even to filter hotel search results using the rating--you could select a specific star rating from a dropdown menu in the filter and the results would instantly be narrowed down to reflect only hotels that had the star rating you specified.

We thought that was handy, but it was also restrictive in a way as it only allowed you to specify a single star rating at a time. If you were willing to consider 4 and 5 star hotels for your stay, there was no way to filter the results to show you both of those types of hotels.

Last night we made a small change to fix that annoyance. We replaced the dropdown menu with checkboxes for the star rating. Now you can select as many different ratings as you like and the your hotel results will be narrowed down accordingly. We also added a little information next to the checkboxes to make things easier--the number of available hotels for each star rating and the lowest price available is displayed next to the checkbox.

As always, just a small change to make your travel simpler. Happy searching and sweet dreams.
