Design and play

In design, it's amazing how much creativity can be "unbottled" by simply letting out the instinct to "play." Great design always has a sense of play and this amazing video is a fantastic insight into how "play" plays a role in one designer's process.

Every once in a while, it's useful to remind ourselves that play is critical to creativity.

Hrush, you are in my head, I think! I wrote a blog about design and found this entry of yours. It goes a little against what I said in my entry (my entry is about setting the rules for design), but I can see the need for playing around with design at times. In fact I have done the same myself for PoP Project.

Here is the entry I wrote, if you are curious: http://paradigmpop.com/node/47

Diwant-rules definitely have their place in design. They become all the more important when you're dealing with changes to the design of a live web site.

When you're starting out designing something completely new, however, playing is an incredibly effective way of getting your thought process kickstarted.
